How to Prepare Your Site for Sod

Timing

The site should be prepared prior to picking up or receiving sod to ensure the sod can be laid as soon as possible after harvesting.

Soil Prep

Ideally, there should be at least 4”-6” of quality top soil. Ensure the soil is raked smooth and lightly packed (no divots when walking on soil) to avoid air pockets under sod. A starter fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 19-19-19 can also be added to the soil prior to laying sod.
